News

Learn how to use the News widget to stay on top of real-time market news, filter by symbol, and read full articles without leaving the platform.

Command Terminal
N

Type N in the command terminal to open the News widget. To open news for a specific stock, type the symbol followed by N — for example, AAPL N.

Overview

The News widget delivers a live feed of market news directly to your dashboard. Articles stream in real time via WebSocket on Pro plans, so you see breaking headlines the moment they're published — no refreshing required.

On the Free plan, news is delivered with a delay (15–20 minutes).

Opening the News Widget

Press the backtick key (`) to focus the command terminal:

  • Type N and hit Enter to open a general market news feed
  • Type AAPL N and hit Enter to open a news feed filtered to Apple

You can open multiple News widgets at the same time — one for broad market news and another filtered to a specific ticker you're watching.

Filtering by Symbol

At the top of the News widget, there's a symbol input field. Type a ticker and press Enter to filter the feed to only show articles mentioning that stock.

To clear the filter and return to the full news feed, click the × next to the symbol.

When a symbol filter is active, real-time updates are also filtered — you'll only see incoming articles that mention your selected ticker.

Advanced Filters

Click the settings icon to access additional filters:

  • Tags — filter by topic tags (e.g., earnings, FDA, mergers)
  • Channels — filter by news channel or source

These filters work alongside the symbol filter. To clear all advanced filters, use the clear button in the filter panel.

Reading Articles

The news feed displays a list of headlines with:

FieldDescription
TitleThe article headline
TeaserA short preview of the article content
TickersStock symbols mentioned in the article
PublishedDate and time the article was published

Click on any headline to read the full article directly inside the widget — no need to leave the platform or open a new browser tab.

To go back to the feed, click the back arrow at the top of the article view. Your scroll position in the feed is preserved, so you pick up right where you left off.

Real-Time Updates

On Pro plans, the News widget connects to a live WebSocket feed. New articles appear at the top of the list automatically as they're published. You'll see breaking news, earnings releases, and market-moving headlines in real time.

This means you don't need to manually refresh or check for updates — the feed stays current on its own.

Infinite Scroll

The news feed loads articles in pages. As you scroll down, more articles load automatically. There's no need to click "load more" — just keep scrolling and older articles will appear.

Tips

  • Filter by ticker when trading. If you're actively watching a stock, filter the news feed to that symbol so you don't miss relevant headlines.
  • Keep a general feed open too. Broad market news can impact your positions even if the headline doesn't mention your specific ticker.
  • Check tickers on articles. A single article often mentions multiple stocks — look at the ticker tags to see what else might be affected.
  • Use tags for thematic monitoring. If you trade around earnings or FDA approvals, use tag filters to surface only the news that matters to your strategy.
